Elderly Care in Waikiki HI
Many family caregivers mention that they care for an elderly loved one who can run circles around them. It’s a funny situation, but it can also mean that you’re not taking care of yourself properly and you’re letting yourself get run down.
Sleep Deprivation
Whether you’re worried about your elderly loved one or you’re having other interruptions to your sleep, not getting enough sleep will run you down quickly. You have to get a handle on what exactly is causing your sleep troubles so that you can solve them. Once they’re solved, you can get the sleep that you need to keep being a caregiver on the run.
Bad Eating Habits
What you eat is the fuel for your body. So if you’re eating a consistent diet of junk food, processed food, or simply not eating much at all, you’re not stoking the furnace. Listen to what your body is telling you. When you do eat healthy foods, you’re likely to start feeling better. If time or sticking with a healthy diet are a concern, start out slowly and work your way up to a much healthier way of eating.
Ignoring Exercise
If you’re not moving your body for at least a few minutes every day, that’s a problem. Your body needs to move and today’s society tends to be rather sedentary. Talk with your doctor about your ability to exercise to make sure it’s okay and do the same for your elderly loved one. Then you can start working out together.
Pushing Yourself Too Hard
Family caregivers have a habit of expecting miracles from themselves. You might get lucky for a really long time, but those miracles only hold out so long. You have to give yourself rest, healthy habits, and emotional support. You can’t just keep rushing from one fire to another in order to keep your elderly loved one’s life running. Get help where you can and accept that you can’t handle everything.
Hiring an elder care provider to help with your loved one can give you the time and the space that you need in order to get a grip on your own health.
